This engineer-cum-artist is carving a new niche for our old music with his vintage record-cutting machine. The handy tool re-purposes old CDs by 'overwriting' existing data and cutting grooves on 'em so they can be played on a turntable. All you have to do is show up with a track, an old CD, and voila! Off you go with a brand "new" 45RPM single. Now if only I could find my turntables.....

But for the last year, the future of 1520 Sedgwick Ave, or Sedgwick and Cedar, has been in question as the landlord tried to remove the 100 unit apartment complex the Mitchel-Lama housing program, which gives landlords tax breaks for renting below market rate. Fortunately for fans of hip hop and affordable housing, the city has made an unprecedented move to block the sale because it “was not viable under current rent restrictions,” protecting the building from being bought and turned into luxury hip hop condos.

Here’s a piece of documentary with a British narrator and DJ Kool Herc explaining how hip hop was born. It also features Grandwizard Theodore, more recently caught performing the little known blindfolded-record-on-the-head scratch.

Just spied these... probably old news for some...

The new release of Nike Structure Triax and the AirMax Lights look great IMO.

The Triax has come together really well with the light grey toe guard, mesh vamp, and the rain camo quarter. The black swooh is a great contrast and the purple accents on the top eyelets and heel tab.

For me the AirMax Light is the pick of the two.. the black toe guard and accents look great and really set off the rain camo. This shoe also has 3M reflective materieal on the heel and quarter. Also as boring as it is... the Midsole being all white looks great against the rest of the shoe. Get involved where you can.

People hustled, scored, shot and smoked wherever they could. Friends conned each other for their next hit. They slept on piles of clothes on the floor. The power was shut off; the bathroom unusable; the kitchen filled with garbage. Anything of value was sold off.

For nearly three years, Jessica Dimmock followed this crew documenting what happened to them after eviction, how they fought to get clean, sank deeper into addiction, went to jail, started families and struggled to survive.

They're cute, white, and fluffy - and they glow in the dark when exposed to ultraviolet light. The cats are actually clones. They're also the first cats to be cloned with a manipulated fluorescence protein gene

The researchers hope that the procedure could help develop treatments for human genetic diseases.

The scientists, from Gyeongsang National University in South Korea, explained that they used the skin cells of the mother cat for cloning. To modify its genes, they inserted a virus in the skin cells, which were then transplanted into the mother's womb. Four Turkish Angora kittens were born in January, but two died during a caesarean section. The two living cats, now nearly a year old, weigh about 6-7pounds

By demonstrating that it's possible to clone an animal with a manipulated gene, the research could help scientists better understand human genetic diseases. For example, scientists may be able to reproduce cloned animals suffering from the same diseases as humans. Cats have about 250 of the same kinds of genetic diseases that affect humans.

The ability to clone genetically altered cats may also help to develop new stem cell treatments for humans. And, using the same technology, researchers may be able to clone endangered animals like tigers, leopards and wildcats.

Introductions by coordinators Emma Presler and Mike Essl were followed by a full-on historical tour of propaganda by Steve Heller. Arguing that the term was not always pejorative, Heller traced propaganda through magazines, posters, words, icons, photography, graffiti, ad hoc demonstration placards, and guerrilla re-purposing. A school in Seminole County, Florida, has given permission for the McDonalds stores to advertise on the report crads of some 27000 students in the district. all Mcdonalds had to do was pay the small sum for the cost of printing.
